This condition is more common in older women and commonly associated with other deformities of the foot such as bunions (hallux valgus). The cause is uncertain but may be an imbalance of the small muscles of the foot or altered foot loading.
Symptoms
Symptoms are the result of corns forming on the toe.
Investigations
X-ray may be required.
Treatment
These are initially treated without surgery by modifying shoes, introducing padding or the use of insoles. Surgery can be used to straighten and shorten claw or hammer toes.
